Sherry Smith

President and Founder of Serenity Stream Yoga & Wellness, ERYT500, LMT , B.Sc.

My personal journey into Yoga and Wellness began in 1998 when I found myself in a high-pressure, demanding corporate management job. I sought out Yoga as a way to manage my mental and physical stress, but found a path for balance and centered mindfulness in my everyday life. Through Yoga, I felt peace, personal satisfaction and bliss from my practice on a level that I hadn't experienced before.  I have dedicated the past 6 years of my life on a path of learning and sharing the gift of Yoga and Wellness with my students and clients.

My teaching style reflects my own personal journey, which is influenced by many styles of yoga.  I meet students where they are from gentle to power yoga.  With my considerable training and understanding of the physiology of the human body, I am able to be in-tune and fully present with my individual students and help them achieve their goals for wellness and personal growth. I strive to keep my students safety and comfort a priority, while providing a fun, light-hearted session, focused on the mind-body connection. I am available for private sessions and Thai Yoga Massage by appointment.

Ellen MacKay

Assistant Director, Marketing, ERYT200, BSW

I believe that yoga can help anyone and any body type find peace and happiness in this world. Through yoga you can learn to relieve tension in your body as well as your mind. You will breathe lighter, move more freely, and learn to let go of the stress that life can bring your way. Yoga will also help you gain muscle tone and burn calories with no high impact to your joints.  Through my practice of yoga, I have learned the importance of listening to my body and staying in the moment. Yoga has allowed me to grow in ways I never thought possible.

Sarah Gauta

Sarah has been practicing yoga since 1999 and teaching since 2006. She is trained in the Kripalu tradition, having studied with Deva Parnell of Discovery Yoga, St. Augustine. Her classes offer a holistic approach to yoga by focusing on alignment, breath work, inward focus, spiritual attunement, self-discovery and self-acceptance. Sarah believes yoga is truly life-changing from the inside to the out and considers it an honor to serve and share the practice with others. When she’s not on the mat she enjoys gardening and raising her two daughters. She is also pursuing a bachelor’s degree in holistic nutrition.

Tiffany Cantrell

Certified Yoga Instructor - RYT200

Tiffany began practicing yoga regularly five years ago when she felt the need to calm her mind, balance her life, and lengthen her muscles from the constant contraction done to them through her weight lifting. Her favorite type of yoga is Vinyasa Flow due to the movement and flow between the asanas and the breath. She has long wanted to share her own love of yoga and its benefits with others. But, placed this goal on hold due to her busy work schedule until she found her guru Stephanie Keach in her home state of North Carolina. There Tiffany earned her certification in Vinyasa Flow yoga. She continues to practice, meditate, read, and reflect daily through her continued teacher training program with Stephanie Keach.

Theresa Clearo

Certified Yoga Instructor - RYT500

I teach a mindfully spirited vinyasa where the attention to the physiology of the poses creates an energetic awakening. This mindfulness provides space for the body and mind to cultivate a deeper presence and inner power.  I try to bring to my classes everything I learn in my personal practice and life experience. Each class has unique elements of vinyasa flow, balanced sequencing and a full spectrum of poses for all levels. As we move through the practice there are opportunities to balance effort and surrender, and encouragement to explore the connection of our inherent wisdom. I am certified @ the 500 hr professional level through Prana Vinyasa® School Of Yoga.

Marion Foster

Certified Yoga Instructor - RYT200

Marion teaches a flowing combination of traditional Yoga poses which not only work on the body but on every aspect of the human personality.  The classes are based on Yogi Hari's teaching of Sampoorna Yoga, the Yoga of Fullness. It's basic teaching is that health, peace and joy already reside within you. Yoga can help to unveil those qualities. Nada yoga, Yoga of divine vibration, or simply music, ends every class and leaves you relaxed and recharged.

Tracey Nelsen

My journey into yoga began in 2006 as I began the spring term of my senior year of college in Washington, DC as I found myself in the middle of preparing for my vocal recital which was a part of the requirements for graduation.  It began as a girls’ night out with a good friend and slowly became a process of self discovery.  My practice became a regular part of my life when I found the Serenity Stream family and I was thrilled to be accepted as part of the first group to go through the teacher training program.  It is my goal in class to not only share what I’ve learned on the mat and off, but to provide students with a safe environment for their own self discovery.

Lynne Houshmand

My yoga journey started in 2007 when I began private lessons seeking a way to safely bring physical exercise into my life.  At that time, I was experiencing chronic back issues related to several back injuries and progressive degenerative changes.

As a result of my regular practice, I began to notice physical improvements including increased energy, strength, flexibility, and muscle tone.  Additionally, my back health improved, as I experienced better ability to move with less episodes of re-injury.

As my relationship with yoga continued to grow, I witnessed many other positive changes in my personal life. I discovered that the benefits of yoga extend beyond physical improvements, and actually provide a platform for overall wellbeing that includes the mind, body, and spirit.  I experienced more balance in my life, a greater sense of wellness, and much better management of stress. For me, my introduction to yoga was truly a life changing experience that continues to this day.

As a regular yoga student, I sought to deepen my personal practice, so I enrolled in the teacher training program offered at Serenity Stream. As my journey with yoga continued, I felt called to bring the knowledge and experience I gained from my mentors and personal practice to my community.  It is my hope that I can help others benefit from the practice of Hatha yoga as I have.

I strive to offer a well-rounded class experience designed to strengthen and improve over-all flexibility while maintaining careful attention to alignment in a nurturing and supportive environment.

Lea Cornell

I am originally from beautiful New Mexico where I began practicing Yoga as a teenager.  My personal practice has carried over into my adulthood where I have experienced an abundance of rewards guiding me through the various stages of life.  One of my personal favorites,  Pre and Post Natal Yoga; encouraging endurance and a sense of calm for the new mother.
Now, as a mother of three, I am overjoyed to share this gift with others.  I believe that yoga is a journey, a process,  that continually offers windows to the exploration and awareness of oneself.
I teach a variety of classes:  Pre and Post Natal, Little Buddha’s (children), Family Yoga and a Ashtanga/Vinyasa Flow.
I am certified through NESTA,  and continuously attend Yoga workshops and classes to strengthen my knowledge and encourage my practice.

Abby Eastman

Certified Yoga Instructor - ERYT200

Abby's yoga journey began in graduate school when she was teaching multiple group exercise classes a day and working several jobs in fitness at once.  On the go constantly she was looking for a way to bring more balance to her life and to the wellness principles she was teaching her students and clients.   A yoga class regularly met after her step aerobics class and the instructor continually invited her to try the class. She decided to check it out. In the beginning she felt it was hard to quiet her mind and relax. Slowing down was really hard.  After the first few classes she felt more peaceful, her anxious mind quiet and just happier!  Shortly after she began regularly attending more Jivamukti yoga classes and studying yoga principles she knew it was time to slow down and bring more balance to her life and work in the fitness and health field by learning to teach yoga. And so the journey began and continues today with her mantra "slow down-breathe deep-live today-persevere with faith."  Her classes are inspired by Jivamukti Yoga, YogaFit and the hope that everyone finds the peace that they are looking for.  Abby holds a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Science from East Carolina University and  a Masters in Education in Exercise Physiology from Old Dominion University.

I retired in 2006 after 20 years in retail management.  My journey into yoga began in 2007.  My wife is actually the one that convinced me to try yoga to help relieve stress and to find balance in my life.

Yoga has now become a daily part of my life and when I heard about the teacher training program I knew I wanted to be a part of it.   As I continue on my yoga journey I hope to use everything I have learned and experienced to help others to begin or continue their yoga journey.
